The Blacksmith Shop

The Blacksmith Shop

At the beginning of the twentieth century, farming was done with the power of horses, thus the blacksmith was considered one of the most essential tradesmen in any pioneer community. His job was to make tools for himself and the various tradesmen and laborers who were integral to the local economy. Thus the blacksmith shop was a popular destination: a warm place to wait for equipment repairs, have horses shod and hear the latest news. This simple reproduction is a timber frame structure housing a brick forge, anvil and a substantial collection of blacksmith tools.

Our Story in Pictures: Watch the forge develop through the generous donations of local Smiths
